Microneedling- what to expect

Did you know we lose 50% of collagen by the age of 30? Is there a treatment that uses your own collagen and elastin to repair the skin? Microneedling is the answer!

Microneedling, also know as Collagen Induction Therapy, creates micro injury to the skin, stimulating fibroblasts, to produce collagen and elastin. The skins repair process results in a thicker dermis with the appearance of softer wrinkles, smoother skin, younger looking skin. Microneedling also creates superficial micro-channels, which allow serums to be absorbed more effectively into the skin.

What are the benefits of microneedling?

Reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, younger-looking skin with fewer signs of aging. It also has a positive effect on hyperpigmentation, as well as hypopigmentation, acne scares, reduction in pore size and shrinks scarring.

How is the procedure done?

The esthetician will apply a thin layer of topical gel to numb the skin. A sterile needle tip containing 12 tiny needles is attached to the pen. Next, in a single motion, the pen will be gently pressed against the skin while gliding in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered. The feeling is compared to light sand paper being moved across the skin. However it’s not too uncomfortable, due to the numbing gel. The procedure takes about 30-45 minutes depending on the size of the area treated.

What is the downtime?

Immediately after the treatment you will notice bright red skin. You may also experience skin tightness, itchiness, warm skin, swelling, and mild sensitivity to the area. The healing time will depend on the depth of the needles being used and the number of passes with the needles. On average, clients are red for up to 4 days.

When will I see results?

Clients will notice and immediate glow to their skin, once the redness calms down. Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several days and weeks. Results continue to improve up to 6 months after the treatment as collagen production continues!

How many treatments will I need?

For some clients only 1 treatment is required. However, it is recommended for most clients to receive a series of 3-6 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart. For those with deep wrinkles, advanced photo aging, deep acne scarring, it is recommended to receive 6-8 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart.
