Dermaplaning at Home is Not Comparable to a Professional Treatment

As a consumer, so many things are being thrown our way, including misinformation.  There are so many  at home treatments that are being advertised as a professional treatments, when in fact it’s not the same. Dermaplaning is an advanced exfoliation performed with a surgical steel blade.Which removes 2-3 weeks of dead skin, allowing products to penetrate deeper, softening lines and wrinkles, improving texture, superficial acne scarring, and leaves you with a immediate glow!The blade is extremely sharp (it is a surgical steel scaple), but with the proper angle, pressure, passes, it can be done safely to give you the results you’re looking for.

The at home brow razors that can be purchased in a grocery store are now being advertised as “Dermaplaning”. They are simply a razor to a shave your face. The razor is not sharp enough, in fact it has jagged edges that cause micro tears in your skin! Yikes. Doing this to your skin at home will damage your skin over time. If your skin isn’t  prepped correctly, or you use an active ingredient beforehand, you can strip your skins natural protective layer and cause your skins barrier to become comprised. Dermaplaning isn’t for every skin type, and there are contraindications as well as things to avoid 24 hours post.

So… go see a licensed pro for this advanced exfoliation treatment.It’s recommended  every 4 weeks, and paired with professional skincare, you will see results. I have been performing Dermaplaning since 2018 and absolutely love the results! Dermaplaning is great 2 weeks before a wedding, as it temporarily removes the Vellus hair (peach fuzz) so your makeup goes on smooth. A consult before the facial. We discuss meds, allergies, the products you’re currently using, what your goals are.

A skin analysis. Once the skin is cleansed, I’ll identify your skin type, I’ll look for texture, the tone of the skin, clogged pores, redness, inflammation, etc.

During the appointment we’ll discuss diet, water intake, your home skincare routine, how to use products, the importance of wearing spf daily, etc.

Product recommendations. I’ll create a skincare regimen for your skin type and concerns. Professional grade skincare must be used at home to see results! I retail Skin Script products, which are affordable and  results driven. Maintaining your skin between appointments is key, as your products are customized for your skin. One facial will not cure all, as being consistent at home is 90% of the work. We’ll work together to improve your skin!

Future treatment plans. I’ll recommend which type of treatments to book next to achieve your skincare goals. Whether it be a facial, dermaplane, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, or  microneedling, we work progressively to improve your skin. Remember: changes take time, patience and team work!
